What is LEF?
LEF is the theatre group of the English department at the University of Leiden. LEF stands for The Leiden English Freshers. Even though most of the people involved are not freshers (first-year students), most study English in Leiden. However, we also have members with some other connection to English or Leiden.
Every year during the past decade we have produced at least one English language play. Shakespeare is a favourite, but we have also done more modern plays, such as Oscar Wilde's An Ideal Husband in 2004. We cast experienced actors and crew as well as complete beginners. Our aim is to create a high quality play while having fun.
Besides the rehearsals there is more to LEF. After rehearsals we have a drink in Camino (a convenient 2 minute walk away). We also try to have a rehearsal weekend, visits to LVC, dinners, and more. So apart from being involved in a play you will also find yourself with a new group of friends!
